Documentation

Timer Design helps you frame focused sessions, log every detail, and finally see where your time goes. Built with distraction-free widgets, it keeps your attention on the path you choose.

Own your data

Switch to Local mode and keep 100% of your sessions in your browser. Nothing leaves your device. Switch back to Cloud anytime -- your data migrates automatically.

Distraction-free

Ad-free YouTube music, no algorithmic feeds, no notifications from other apps. Widgets show only what matters for your work: time, weather, events, notes, to-do.

Use AI wisely

Export your sessions as JSON or CSV -- structured, clean, ready for any AI. Ask it to find patterns, build dashboards, or summarize your work habits across weeks and months.

Timer

The core of the app. Add a title, hit Start, and track your work with a live display that scales to your screen. Every action is logged automatically with timestamps. Pause, resume, or stop at any time.

Start, Pause, Resume, Stop

The core flow. Add a title and description, then hit Start. Pause anytime, resume when ready. Stop ends the session and lets you publish it.

Live display

Hours, minutes, seconds displayed in large Inter Tight typography. The display scales automatically to fit your screen width.

LED indicator

A pulsing LED dot next to the timer. Green = running, yellow = paused. Visual confirmation at a glance without reading the numbers.

Stage journal

Every action (start, pause, resume, stop) is logged with a timestamp. Add manual stages during a session to mark milestones. Each stage has an editable note and a duration badge.

Pomodoro mode

Countdown timer with presets: 25, 50, or 90 minutes. A circular SVG ring shows progress. When done, a smart break is suggested (5, 10, or 20 min). Browser notification + audio alert.

Audio alerts

Interval sound alerts at 15, 30, or 60 minutes. Generated in-browser via Web Audio API -- no external files. Works on all platforms including iOS Safari.

Metadata

Define projects, categories, and tags before or during a session. These labels are associated with the session and used for filtering in History and Dashboard.

To-Do list

A task list available while the timer runs. Add, check off, and delete tasks. Keeps your focus on what needs to get done during the session.

Notes

Free-text scratchpad. Auto-saves 700ms after you stop typing. Quick thoughts and reminders without leaving the timer view.

Mood journal

After stopping a session, rate how it felt: Hard, Ok, or Great. The mood is saved with the session and can be used to filter in Dashboard.

Session intention Optional

Before each new session starts, a window asks for your session intention or focus. Helps frame the work ahead. Enable it in Settings > Preferences.

Gratitude journal Optional

After stopping a session, a mini-journal appears before publishing. A moment to reflect. Enable it in Settings > Preferences.

Inactivity detection

After 2 hours 30 minutes without any interaction, a warning appears. No response in 30 minutes = auto-pause. Prevents forgotten sessions running all night.

QR session handoff

Scan a QR code from the stage journal to move the active session to another device instantly. The token expires after 60 seconds for security.

Cross-device sync

Sessions persist across refreshes and devices. The timer syncs state every 30 seconds + on every action. Open timer.design on any device and pick up where you left off.

Widgets

Customizable cards displayed alongside the timer. Each one is optional -- enable or disable from Settings. Designed to keep useful information visible without leaving the timer view.

Weather

Current conditions and temperature for your location. Updates automatically. Displayed as a compact card below the timer.

Music Web + mobile

On the web: an ad-free YouTube player below the timer, with built-in presets (lofi, ambient, classical) or your own YouTube links. In the mobile app: plays audio files from your phone, chosen from Files, with playlist and loop. No ads, no recommendations, no distractions.

Calendar / Events Web only

Personal event calendar. Add events with title, description, date, and time. Events show on a calendar view with month navigation.

World Clock

Display time in 3 timezones simultaneously. Click any slot to change the city. Useful for remote teams or international collaboration.

Alarm Web only

Set a one-time alarm for a specific time. Browser notification + audio alert when the alarm fires. Independent of the timer.

Quotes

Inspirational quotes displayed as a widget card. A curated collection that rotates with each session.

Currency converter

Quick currency conversion widget. Select base and target currencies, get live exchange rates. Useful for freelancers working with international clients.

Tip: Enable or disable any widget from Settings > Widgets active. The timer widget is always on. All others are optional.

History

Browse every session you have ever published. Infinite scroll loads more as you go. Filter by period, expand any session to see its full stage timeline, mood, and labels.

Infinite scroll

Sessions load progressively as you scroll. No pagination, no "load more" buttons. Your entire work history is one continuous feed.

Period filter

Filter sessions by time range: last 24 hours, 7 days, 30 days, or 12 months. See exactly what you worked on in any period.

Labels / Projects

Assign color-coded labels to sessions. Create labels in the timer panel. Use them to categorize work by project, client, or type.

Stage detail view

Expand any session to see the full stage journal: every start, pause, resume, manual stage, and their notes and duration badges.

Export for AI

Export sessions as JSON (full data with stage journal) or CSV (line-by-line, ready for Excel or AI). Available in two modes: daily export for a single day, or total export for your entire history.

AI as an interpretation aid

Export your sessions and let any AI build a visual dashboard with charts, KPIs, and pattern analysis -- things the built-in Dashboard doesn't do.

1 Open Dashboard and tap Export. Choose JSON (full data with stages) or CSV (flat, one row per session). Pick daily or total.
2 Open any AI assistant (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini) and paste the exported file.
3 Add the prompt below and send. The AI will generate a full HTML dashboard you can open in any browser.
Prompt Here is my Timer Design export. Build a single-file HTML dashboard I can open in any browser. Use Chart.js (CDN). Dark theme (#000000 background, #141416 cards, white text, #1a5cff accent). Include: KPI cards at the top: total hours, total sessions, avg session length, longest session, current streak, most productive day of the week. Charts: - Pie chart: hours per project (top 8, rest grouped as "Other") - Horizontal bar: hours per category - Line chart: daily hours over 30 days with 7-day moving average overlay - Grouped bar: average session duration by day of the week - Donut: mood distribution (Hard / Ok / Great) with percentage labels - Scatter: session start hour (x) vs duration (y) to find peak productivity windows - Heatmap grid: hours per weekday per week (GitHub contribution style) Analysis section below the charts: - Top 3 most productive days with context (project, total hours, mood) - Mood-duration correlation: are "Great" sessions longer or shorter? - Pattern detection: recurring start times, day-of-week preferences, consistency gaps - Streak history: longest streak, current streak, when streaks broke and why (gap days) - Recommendations: 3 actionable insights based on the data Make it responsive. All charts must have tooltips and legends. No external dependencies besides Chart.js.

Journal

A separate space for free-form notes, independent from timer sessions. Write reflections, ideas, or daily notes. Add custom tags and optional images. Infinite scroll loads older entries as you go.

Daily journal entries

Write free-form journal entries separate from timer sessions. Add a title and description. They persist and appear in chronological order.

Custom tags

Add custom tags to any journal entry. Use them to categorize your notes by topic, mood, or project. Tags are searchable and filterable.

Auto-generated images

If you don't attach a specific image to an entry, the app generates one automatically. Every entry has a visual identity.

Infinite scroll

Older entries load automatically as you scroll down. No pagination -- your entire journal is one continuous feed.

Edit and delete

Every entry can be edited inline or deleted. Changes are saved immediately to the server.

Form persistence

If you start writing a journal entry and navigate away, the title and description are saved locally. Come back and your draft is still there.

Dashboard

Your personal analytics. Total hours, streaks, heatmaps, label breakdowns, weather and location context. Filter by project, category, tag, day of the week, mood, or time period.

Statistics overview

Total hours, total sessions, average duration, longest session. A hero card with shader animation shows the headline stats. Filtered or global.

Streak tracking

How many consecutive days you have used the timer. The streak widget counts your daily discipline and displays it prominently.

Multi-filter system

Filter all statistics by project, category, tag, day of the week, mood (Hard / Ok / Great), or time period. Combine filters to drill into specific patterns.

Weather & location

Automatic weather and location data captured with each session. See how your productivity correlates with conditions and places.

Shareable stats card

A visually designed card with your stats (total hours, sessions, streak). Share it as an image on social media or with your team.

Settings

Configure widgets, preferences, visual theme, data mode, language, profile, and export. Everything is accessible from the Settings tab.

Widgets active

Toggle each widget on or off. Disabled widgets are hidden from the timer view. The timer widget itself cannot be disabled.

Preferences

Toggle inactivity warning (auto-pause after 3h of no activity), session intention modal, and gratitude journal.

Visual theme

Choose between 6 animated shader themes: Sunset, Accent, Warm, Cool, Clean, and Interstellar. The theme colors the animated background behind all cards.

Data mode

Choose between Cloud (synced across devices, automatic backup) and Local (browser-only, no server sync). Switch anytime -- your data migrates automatically.

Language

6 languages: Romanian, English, German, Spanish, Russian, Chinese. The interface switches instantly. Your data stays unchanged.

Profile

Update your first name, last name, and display name. These appear on your shareable stats card.

Onboarding

First-time users see a 5-step guided setup: intro, language selection, welcome, widget picker, and data mode selection. Runs once, never again.

Security & privacy

Your data is encrypted, your sessions are device-locked, and local mode keeps everything in your browser. No tracking, no ads, no third-party analytics.

AES-256 encryption

All session titles, descriptions, journal entries, and notes are encrypted with AES-256-GCM before being stored in the database. Even a database administrator cannot read your content.

Secure authentication

CSRF protection with nonce tokens, honeypot fields, minimum submission time check, and per-IP rate limiting (10 login attempts per 5 min, 3 registrations per hour).

Session device lock

Each device is identified by a unique local ID. Only the device that owns the session can modify it. Takeover requires explicit user action.

Local mode

Keep all data exclusively in your browser. Nothing is sent to the server. Full privacy for sensitive work.
